Loris Hezemans has started the 2021 season of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series rock solid. The Dutch driver, competing for the Hendriks Motorsport team, took victory on both days.
Circuit Ricardo Tormo near Valencia played host to the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season opener. It was the perfect start to the 2021 season for the No. 7 team of Hendriks Motorsport. Loris Hezemans took the pole position and victories in the PRO class behind the wheel of the Ford Mustang on both days.
During the first race on Saturday, Hezemans, who was allowed to start from pole position, had to let the Israeli Alon Day ahead of him but was able to recover quickly from the poor start. On the fourth lap, Hezemans went around Day in the Doohan-corner and took the lead again after which the victory was not in danger.
The second EuroNASCAR PRO race on Sunday had the same front row start as Race 1 with Loris Hezemans and Alon Day up front, but unlike Race 1, Day did not manage to take the lead from Hezemans this time. On the second lap, however, Day tried to go around Hezemans on the outside. He made contact with the Israeli on the approach to turn five, but managed to hold on to the lead, allowing Hezemans to cruise to victory unhindered.
“A better start of the season is not to be wished for” says Hezemans. “We were fast from the first meter on Friday and the Hendriks Motorsport team had the car perfectly prepared. Weekends like this leave me wanting more and give me an enormous boost for the season, so I’m looking forward to the next races with a lot of confidence.”
